With Paris, London, New York and Milan showing us what we can expect to see for Spring/Summer 17, you will need to be manufacturing clothes that reflect these changing fashions. You’ll find that some simply update current fashions, some are truly innovative and others hark back to trends of the past. Get ready for the new fashions ahead of time for a successful season.
Bralettes
Various designers, such as Miuccia Prada, Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Céline and Victoria Beckham all showcased bralettes in a variety of styles. Try placing bralettes over shirts or utilitarian dresses, studded bralettes, wrap-around bralettes or crocheted styles for designer style.
Fuchsia
Fascia was reigning supreme at Paris fashion week. Ignore any thoughts of dusky rose or pale pastels and splash this bold and striking colour on everything from evening dresses, jackets and even shoes.
Deconstructed shirts
First seen at New York and with no signs of fading away, deconstructed shirts will be big next season. Make them oversized, one-shouldered, loud, sexy or even add additional collars and cuffs to bring this look to your customers. They will be looking for it.
Return to the 80s
An 80s silhouette was seen at every fashion week, with vintage brooches and spandex leggings in particular standing out. Slogan t-shirts, power shoulders and sweetheart necklines were all spotted too.
Tulle
Tulle was an incredibly popular fabric choice, and will give you the opportunity to make some ballerina-inspired pieces sure to be popular with customers looking to live out the romantic dream.
Sportswear
Whether it’s leggings under feminine ball gowns, fencing-chic or crystal-adorned tracksuit tops and drawstring-pulled nylon, expect sportswear to come into big demand.
Random skirt hemlines
There was only one thing certain about the hemlines of skirts for next season and that’s no certainty. The most obvious trend was for asymmetric, erratic handkerchief hems. Plissé pleating was seen at Marni and both Preen and Simone Rocha decided on unpredictable layers.
Contemporary ruffles
Innovation was brought to the ubiquitous ruffle in the form of strange and new fabrications. Black leather embroidered with Scottish roses was seen at McQueen, whilst linen, frayed ruffles were offered by Erdem.
